Our Mission

To Educate ourselves and the community at large

To Engage in equitable policies and practices

To Dismantle systems of power, advantage, and privilege

To Build a racially just and equitable community

To Transform our society and ourselves

What We Do

Through organizational meetings, discussions, and community events, as well as individual interactions and self-work, we:
  • Identify and challenge discrimination and marginalization at all levels.
  • Work to rectify inequitable and unjust policies and practices within, but not limited to, local artistic, business, community, educational/intellectual, law enforcement, and municipal institutions and agencies.
  • Foster a safer Cazenovia community, through active community leadership, understanding that our community is only safe when everyone is safe.
  • Seek to repair the impact that racism has had on our whole community.
  • Aim to build a flourishing community that is equitable, just, and welcoming to us all – visitors, vacationers, students, and permanent residents – increasing the quality of living in our village as a whole.

Who We Are

We are a multi-racial coalition, founded by members of the community in May 2020. We base our work on centuries of labor and vision forged by communities of color, locally and nationally.

We welcome members at every stage of racial identity development and at varying levels of racial literacy.

We do so with the understanding and expectation that we each will work steadily to deepen our knowledge, build our fluencies, and engage actively in anti-racism education and activism for the long haul.

We seek to connect groups and individuals who are committed to anti-racism work in Cazenovia and beyond.

Because we acknowledge that much of the work to combat racism and white supremacy is within the white community,  our white ARC-C members embrace their work of educating the larger white community and working with them to make systemic change.

Our Pledge

We will educate ourselves, admit our mistakes, address conscious and unconscious bias directly, and reckon with past and present legacies of racism.

We commit ourselves to take action, to be catalysts of change, to build a just and equitable community that recognizes and affirms every member's inherent worth.

We pledge to address racism and white supremacy at individual and systemic levels through education, policy change, and practice, with the aim of building a flourishing, racially just and equitable community.
